Hosts and Hostesses - The Nowdays Geishas?

Feeling lonely? Just rent a friend...

[A loaded pocket it's ADVICE]

The modern geisha world is officially unrelated to the conventional, highly-esteemed ways of the classic geisha, and I do not mean any disrespect when comparing between them.

Instead of traditional Japanese tea houses and pricey restaurants at which you can enjoy the formal, upscale companionship of a geisha, nowadays things are much more casual. These modern geishas, called hosts or hostesses, are simply good looking men or women who will drink, eat, dance, and sing karaoke with you, and make sure that there isn't a single down time during your night out.

There are specific clubs that have these hosts or hostesses, with a "mama" who is in charge of them at each place. Of course, all expenses are on the customer, and expensive they are - every drink ordered to the table must be ordered for the hosts/hostesses, who don't get drunk because they are secretly served non-alcoholic beverages.

The concept of Japanese hosts and hostesses is similar to inviting a comedian or clown to a party - they make sure people are talking, laughing, and having an overall good time. That's why it's not unusual to see groups of ladies or guys occasionally going out to a club and enjoying the company of hosts or hostesses who lively up the atmosphere. There are also

Japanese, however, who form longer lasting relationships with their modern geishas. These customers benefit from partying outside any specific club, and instead are privately accompanied to restaurants, karaoke parlors, etc. Everything for a price, of course.

For those how enjoy japanese animation, anime, there is one that deals with the host club stuffs, Ouran High School Host Club (in japanese 桜蘭高校ホスト部 OR Ōran Kōkō Hosuto Kurabu). It's a shoujo anime, but most of the history it's a comedy.

Geisha 101

First of all [ Let's explain what is a GEISHA ]

Gueisha are japanese women how study the anciant tradiction of the art of the seduction, dance and sing, and been caracterized by their unique tog and makeup. And worth highlighting that a real geisha doesn't have any sexuality relation with their clients. Those women might even flert, but it should never pass it. For just make it clear, they're not prostitutes.

Thermology [Geisha, Geiko, Geigi ]

The term "geisha" is compost of two japannese words gei (in japanese ) with means "art" and sha (in japanese ), with respectively means "art" and "persons who does" or "to be employed in". The most literal translation of geisha to english would be something like "artist".
But the geishas can recive differents names depending of the region in Japan.

[WTF!? - I will explain it better.]

Like in most countries they also have variantions on the language, the dialects or so called Japonic Languages. Therefore, geisha (in japanese 芸者), geigi (in japanese 芸妓) or geiko (in japanese 芸子) mean the same. However geiko it's how the japanese in Kyoto call the geishas. City where has stronger and older tradition on that art.
